Please join us for our “Walking with God” Tour as we consider how we can Unite a Community of Youth to have Fun in Fellowship as we Serve others.

All youth in this mission area that are in 8th grade – 12th grade are invited to attend these events. The SCUFFY team, which is composed of many high school youth from all around the north mission area, is planning five events as an opportunity for youth to gather for fun, fellowship and service. Every event will be slightly different, so feel free to come to more than one.

March 14th, 2009 Good Shepherd, Laconia, NH

TIME:
4 – 8 pm (*3:30- 7:30 pm)

SAMPLE SCHEDULE:
4 pm–4:45 pm Arrival and Mixers
4:45 pm-5 pm SCUFFY/LYO presentation
5 pm-6 pm Service Pro ject – Shoe Drive
6 pm-6:30 pm Dinner
6:30-7:15 pm Free Choice activities
7:15 pm–7:30 pm Dessert

7:30 pm -8 pm Worship with a Band and Devotions

WHAT TO BRING:
This event is free, but we are asking you to bring a pair of new or gently used shoes in infant and children’s sizes to donate to our sister synod in Honduras. It would be great if everyone who came had at least one pair. If you would like to involve your church, host a shoe drive before you come to the event.

We will have Fun getting to know other Lu theran Youth and Unite for a common cause Serving others in our Community and beyond all the while building Fellowship.

Young Adult Group forming in Central Mass!

A new pan-denominational group is forming in our Central Mass. Mission Area that brings together young adults from the surrounding area and including students from Worcester Polytechnic Instuttestudents from and Quinsigamond Community College among others.

The group goes by the acronym CCYA-CM: Christ-Centered Young Adults of Central MA.

Get Drenched Leadership Event: Oct. 18

The Get Drenched Team will be sponsoring a special day of workshops and networking for adults and senior high youth on Oct. 18 at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Westborough, MA. 

The day will include a variety of workshops, some still TBA, but will include: opportunities to brainstorm ideas for helping your group get the most out of the National Youth Gathering, using technology in your ministry with a review of on-line resources, creating a safe environment for youth, and building a healthy youth ministry in your congregation.  If you have used the Get Drenched Resource (available for download here at our blog) you can share how this is working in your congregation with others who are also working through developing best practices in youth ministry.

Scuffy Event (North Mission Area LYO)!

This is the first of 5 events sponsored by the North’s LYO group for ELCA youth in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

The Scuffy Event will feature games, service, fun, music, hanging out with friends and learning more about GOD, and what it means to walk with God. More information will be posted as the event gets closer, so just mark your calendder for now.

New England Zone/Quake dates Set

Youth Encounter has announced dates for their 2009 event in New England.  The event will combine both a Zone and Quake format to account for potential low numbers due to the ELCA Youth Gathering coming next summer.

This combined event has been scheduled on the traditional Quake date and site:  Worchester MA, Jan 30-Feb 1, 2009.

Resolution for Youth Representation at ‘08 Synod Assembly

There is one resolution at synod assembly that will be important to support for youth in your congregation.

The resolution, 08-02 for Youth Representation at Synod Assemblies, would allow any congregation in our synod to add an additional voting member under age 25 to their congregation’s delegation.  You can see the entire resoultion at the synod assembly info page, or in this pdf form:  http://www.nesynod.org/2008_Synod_Assembly/2008Resolutions.pdf.  Scroll down to page 2.

Northern New England Mission Area LYO Forming

Greetings everyone!

 

As mentioned back in December, we are putting together 6 smaller youth leadership opportunities in each of the Mission Areas of the Synod.  The Northern New England Mission Area consists of congregations in the Plattsburgh, NY area, VT, NH, and ME. 

 

The Northern New England Mission Area LYO group recently had their first event on May 3rd, 2008.  At this event, youth and adults were brought together to continue ministry together throughout the Northern Mission Area.   We are still looking for Youth and Adults from Maine, New York and Vermont.
